Radiant Roses! My review of the Lady Vintage Dirdle Dress in Vintage Red Rose

Today, I am reviewing the Lady Vintage Dirdle Dress in Vintage Red Rose Print.  This dress is such a delight!  I am completely enamored of every aspect of it.  Lady Vintage is a London based company that offers a plethora of amazing vintage styled garments in sizes 8-32.  The Dirdle Dress features a square neckline on a fitted bodice with wide straps, a tapered waistline and full flared skirt. The Dirdle Dress also features a sash tie to emphasize the waistline and the full skirt is large enough to accommodate a petticoat.  This dress comes in a variety of unique prints so there is a print to fit every personality and occasion.  I am always happy to see a company make the effort to be body positive and size inclusive and I know that Lady Vintage truly cares about their customers because they offer their clothing in a huge size range so there truly is something for everyone!

I love how this dress fits, it really highlights my curves and makes me feel gorgeous.  I am wearing the Dirdle Dress in a size 20, fit is wonderful.  This dress is made for curves!  The bodice is comfortable and modest, making this a great dress for those times when cleavage is not appropriate but the shape of the dress is undeniably feminine so it is sexy in an understated way.  The skirt is full enough for a petticoat, I am wearing one here but it looks lovely without because the material holds its shape, belling out to give the skirt fullness.  The sash at the back of the waist allows you to cinch the dress to fit your shape and comfort level and it emphasizes the waist to give that exaggerated vintage silhouette. The material is a high quality cotton elastane blend that stretches for comfortable fit and movement but is heavy enough to have structure and stand up to repeated wearings. Ladies, this dress has POCKETS!!  Nice, roomy and super handy, pockets on a dress are rare so the Dirdle Dress having pockets confirms that it is indeed the perfect dress.  Lady Vintage have a gift for designing vintage inspired dresses that are practical for everyday wear.

I adore the Vintage Red Rose Print on the Dirdle Dress.  A bright garden print with red roses, greenery and accenting flowers in shades of purple, peach, pink and yellow on a cream backdrop.  I love roses, they are my favorite flower bringing back memories of my grandmother so for me the roses are the star of this dress.  I had fun playing up the red roses with my favorite accessories but the colors in it allow for many different ways of styling and I enjoy dresses that inspire a myriad of different moods and looks!

I had to wear this dress in the perfect garden setting but even though its April, winter is still lingering.  It's still snowy here in Michigan so we took the opportunity on a rare warm day to head to the beautiful Dow Gardens in Midland, Michigan to take these photos. Filled with thousands of plants, walking paths, water features, themed gardens, mid century bridges, sculptures and architecture; Dow Gardens is a paradise that I enjoy wandering around for hours admiring!  I cannot tell you how many people stopped me to compliment my outfit, I was told I looked like a fairy, a princess and everyone complimented this beautiful dress.  The Dirdle Dress is a timeless piece for your wardrobe, a classy dress that will never go out of style.  I love wearing clothing that makes me feel good and the Dirdle Dress in Vintage Red Rose by Lady Vintage made me feel like a million bucks!

Fashion, sealed with a kiss! My SWAK Designs Lookbook

They say summer has ended but its hanging on here in Michigan, we have been experiencing a rather warm start to September with the heat of the summer season continuing.  I can see touches of autumn all around me though, so change is in the wind.  The tips of the trees are turning red, apple cider is being pressed fresh at our local orchard and Halloween decorations have taken over our stores.  Fall is my favorite time of year.  I love the bright beautiful leaves and the earthy colors that overtake everything but I do get a little melancholy because I love wearing pretty dresses and the weather here in Michigan can be rather brutal.  Wardrobe is trickier in cooler weather but being stylish doesn't have to be a summer thing!

For today's blog, I am thrilled to be working with SWAK.  SWAK (sealed with a kiss) is one of my favorite plus size retailers, they make trendy and affordable plus size fashions for sizes 14-36.  I have been a huge fan of SWAK for many reasons, they provide a great fit for real plus size bodies, high quality material and the fab style of their designs make me reach for them again and again!  I have been wearing SWAK for several years, their dresses are among some of my favorite wardrobe pieces.  I am excited to be collaborating with SWAK to bring you this lookbook highlighting some of their new pieces, sharing how I styled them and talking a bit about how I plan to transition them into cooler weather fall fashion.

I am smitten with this absolutely amazing dress!  The Eternity Convertible Maxi Dress can literally be worn any way you can imagine, an eternity of style.  The dress is a basic strapless maxi dress that has two long flowing panels of material attached at the top that can be wrapped in a multitude of different ways to create your own unique personal style.  I had a blast playing with this dress, watching videos on the SWAK website with instructions for some of the different styles to wrap the dress and have enjoyed how easy it is to change up the style.  I wrapped my Eternity Convertible Maxi Dress into a V-neck style that can be sleeveless or cap sleeved depending on how I move the shoulder material.  This dress is soft and flowing, it felt ethereal and lovely. I love how it moves in the wind, it is a very graceful dress.  Fit is generous and easy, I am wearing a size 1x/3x here and it feels perfect.  The dress is very long so as a shorter gal like myself you will want to wear heels or have it hemmed to fit.    I accessorized my Eternity Convertible Maxi Dress with nude heels, a homemade fall flower and leaf crown, the Acorn in the Meadow Necklace and pretty Amber Drop Earrings for a forest fairy fantasy.  This dress is a great wardrobe piece because it is wearable for every occasion and can be wrapped to fit any style, weather, or mood.

Necklace: Acorn in the Meadow C/O Summer Blue Jewelry
Hairpiece: Homemade Fall Leaf and Flower Crown

For my next choice I went completely outside the box.  I have been challenging myself to get outside my comfort zone this year and my next outfit really steps out of my norm.  First of all, since I have discovered pinup fashion I have worn dresses almost exclusively, I can actually only count three to four times I have worn jeans since I started this blog nearly two years ago.  Second, when I do wear pants, I ALWAYS wear a long top or if the top is shorter I wear a tank top underneath.  I have a bit of a belly flap that I am not comfortable with, this is one of the things I am working on being more accepting of in my journey to body love so its a big step for me to wear a shirt that doesn't come past my butt or nearly to my knees.  I am proud of myself for taking these chances and I could not have made a better partner than SWAK to dress me!

This is the ideal autumn outfit for a cool day enjoying a color tour, at your local orchard picking apples or searching the patch for that perfect pumpkin.  I love fall colors so I could not resist this bright coral top with its pretty leaf print and feminine lace hem.  The big flowing belled sleeves are one of my favorite styles to wear and the cold shoulder is trendy as well as flattering.  The Autumn Chiffon Top is light and sheer so I wore a plain brown tank underneath for modesty sake.  Fit is fabulous, I chose a size 3x so I could be sure that the bottom of the top would fit well over my butt/hip area, I generally wear a 1X in most tops but as I have a very extreme hourglass figure the hip measurement was the key to getting proper fit here.  I felt like a fall flower child in this top.  I added Amber Drop Earrings, contrasting teal peep toe wedges and a sunflower in my hair to give a cute autumn touch.
Outfit Details:
Top: Autumn Chiffon Top in Coral Leaves size 3x c/o SWAK
Pants: Holly High Waist Jeans in Dark Wash size 3x c/o SWAK
Earrings: Amber Drops by Ceci Punch Designs
Shoes: Bow Front Peep Toe Wedges in Teal by Qupid
The Holly High Waist Jeans are a dream!!  I have such a hard time fitting jeans on my figure.  My waist measurement is 38, my hips at the largest point are 56, with an 18 inch difference pants that will fit in the waist never make it around my butt or if they fit my butt they hang from my waist by a belt.  These were the reasons ]why I gave up on pants.  The Holly High Waist Jeans have saved me, I now have a pair of flattering jeans that fit great for those days when a dress or skirt is absolutely not practical.  They are a high waist style with a ton of stretch.  I am wearing a size 3x here, measurements on the site stated that they fit up to a 46 inch hip but the amount of stretch that this material has is phenomenal because they fit me perfectly, not to tight, just like a glove.  They are soft and comfortable, easy to move in, not stiff in the knees at all like some stretch jeans tend to be.  The high waist style will work with my vintage style wardrobe as well, I can't wait to pair these with a peasant top and ankle boots for a fun retro twist!
My first jeans in two years and exposing the self hated belly flap, I FEEL FREE!!!

The Farrah Maxi Dress in Black and White.

The Farrah Maxi Dress is a gorgeous wrap top maxi in fun bold prints that features adjustable waist and straps for the perfect fit.  The Farrah Maxi Dress features a bold black and white print that is a rarity in my wardrobe, I tend towards brights, florals, novelty prints, all things retro themed.  The Farrah Maxi Dress has a modern feel my wardrobe is lacking.  I felt like bold colored accessories would be perfect, a Red Mum in my hair, a chunky red necklace and sky high red platform heels gave the Farrah Maxi Dress the sophisticated feel I was looking for.  Fit is fabulous, the bust area is generous, the waist tie makes it easy to get a flattering fit and the skirt is generous.  The dress is very long, I had to have it hemmed because it was about 7-8 inches to long for me, at 5'3" it is not common for maxi dresses to be too long.  The Farrah Dress is perfect for a day spent shopping or date night out with your special someone.  I can easily transition this dress into the cooler months by adding a cardigan and ballet flats- or- a jacket, scarf and boots.

Marvelous Melon-Kiyonna Twirling in Tulle Skirt Review

It's the weekend again!!  I am finally slowing down from a busy week of work and catching up with life after our little vacation.  I have been missing Mackinac Island terribly since our trip last week.  It is such a refreshing change of pace from the hustle and bustle of life on the mainland.  I am already planning to get another trip planned, hoping to return in the fall so we can see the glories of autumn touch the island!

Today I am reviewing the Kiyonna Twirling in Tulle Skirt in Melon Marvel.  I have been dying to jump on the tulle skirt bandwagon for ages.  I've been seeing these glorious cotton candy tutu and tulle skirts all over the internet but I am generally a dress wearing gal.  I have been really trying to break out of some of my wardrobe habits, try some new styles and break my own mold.  It has been a rewarding experience, taking chances and trying new things so I decided I must give the tulle skirt a try.

I love this skirt!  It is light and airy, like a sugary, candy confection.  Perfect for a day spent exploring Mackinac Island, this skirt made me feel like graceful and lovely like a ballerina.  The skirt is light and airy, pretty and so comfortable.  I wore it wandering all over the island on a hot summer day, it kept me looking great and feeling cool.  I lost track of the amount of people who stopped me to compliment my outfit, it was incredible to me to have so many complete strangers feel the need to stop what they were doing and say "I absolutely love your outfit!".  I wear what I love but I really know that I have found a special outfit when I have people tell me they love it and ask where I have shopped.  I looked and felt like a million dollars that day!
Outfit Details:
Skirt: Twirling in Tulle in Melon Marvel size 2X by Kiyonna
Top: Tulip Top in White size 14 by Blueberry Hill Fashions (review coming Monday!)
Necklace: Loren Hope Sunset Statement Necklace via Rocksbox
Earrings: Sophie Harper Double Bar Drop Earrings via Rocksbox
Shoes: Athena Sandal in White by Bearpaw
Location: The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan

The fit on the Twirling in Tulle Skirt is fabulous. I have an extreme hourglass shape,my waist is 38-39 and hips measure in at 59 so that 20 inch difference can make it very difficult to find bottoms that fit well.  The 1x waist measurement was perfect but I was worried about it fitting over my behind so I decided to get the skirt in a size 2x to be sure that it would fit both my waist and hip\bottom area.  The waist has tons of stretch and the fit is perfect for me.

Wandering the labyrinth at The Grand Hotel

The waist is stretchy and wide with gathered tulle.  The skirt is two layers of glorious fluffy tulle and is lined with a soft and stretchy poly/spandex blend.  Fun for casual wear with a printed t-shirt and fun jewelry or beautiful dressed up with a blouse and pretty accessories, the Twirling in Tulle skirt is sure to become a piece you'll want to wear again and again!

Wishful Wednesday!!

I'm starting to get used to being a working mom.  Balancing my time between my family,  work and my blogging has been tough but I'm feeling content with my progress, I'm definitely proud of how far I've come!!  I never would have guessed a few years ago how much different my life would be but its an amazing journey and I'm always excited to see where I'll end up next!!  It's a gorgeous sunny day, a welcome change after a week of chilly rainy days.  Summertime is so close, my son Lennon is excited for school to get out and I'll be happy to enjoy the warm, carefree time together, a less hectic schedule will be a blessing.  I'm hoping for bonfires, nature walks, time at the beach with the family and fun with friends.  I'm especially looking forward to Pinups for Patriots events coming up!  I have been having dreams of exotic vacations lately so my  Wishful Wednesday this week is inspired by Hawaii, beautiful tropical paradise and perpetual summer bliss.

British Retro are a proud British made brand specializing in elegant, vintage style clothing from bygone eras.  They have a variety of fun prints and their dresses are made in small batches so they're a great choice for the gal who is always looking for something unique.  I choose their Hula Hula Scooter Girl dress, 1950s hula girls posing prettily and riding scooters on a background of palm trees and orchids.  This print is too fun, a retro Hawaiian vacation dancing across your dress!  The dress has a V-neckline at the front and back of the bodice, it also comes with a matching belt. The Hula Hula Scooter Girls dress is perfectly styled for creating a sublime hourglass silhouette, the fitted bodice draws you in at the waist and creates fullness to emphasize the full circle skirt.  It is truly a frock meant to swish and swirl about in on a beautiful day.

I recently discovered Bobò Chèrie Accessories on Facebook.  I adore her unique vintage inspired pieces, they are handmade from high quality craft materials.  I prefer items that are handmade, they have so much more charm and interest in comparison to mass produced items.  I choose Bobò Chèrie's Red Cherry necklace with leaves and the matching Bamboo earrings with red cherries.  The tropical tiki style matches the dress while drawing attention to red accents in the print.   Cherries are fun, fruity and bold, definitely not accessories to be ignored!

T.U.K. Shoes have hundreds of interesting and unique shoes perfect for any style you choose to rock,  designed to show your originality.  I love their selection of gorgeous heels, they have many fabulous pinup perfect styles available.  Their Cream Peeptoe Starlet Heels are my favorite!  These adorable faux leather cream peep toe heels include a cute knotted bow on the toe and an adjustable ankle strap with a matching cream wrapped buckle. These heels are about 4 ¼ inches high with a ½ inch platform and as if theyre not perfect enough, they're also vegan friendly!  When I'm buying shoes I want a pair that I know will not only stand the test of time style wise, but that I know will be something I can wear with as many outfits as possible.  I would love to own these Starlet heels in several colors, great shoes are a necessity for any pinup wardrobe!

I would finish this lovely outfit off with the Double teal blue cymbidium orchid hair flower from Sophisticated Lady.  Sophisticated Lady specializes in high quality handmade accessories in vintage styles inspired by the 1930s, 40s and 50s.  The Double teal blue cymbidium orchid perfectly accents the blue orchids on the dress adding just the right finishing touch.  I am a huge sucker for hair flowers, whether dressed in pinul style or not I love to finish off almost any outfit with a big colorful flower clipped in my hair!  Sophisticated Lady accessories are worn by some of my biggest Pinup inspirations like Miss Victory Violet and Acid Doll!!

I have so many exciting plans, my summer is filling up fast with plans, some of which are photoshoots and Pinups for Patriots Michigan events.  I have some awesome items in the mail so I'm looking forward to future blogs, reviewing new brands and a few more personal stories I feel I need to share.  My passion is to help each person see the beauty in themselves but I am also hoping to show people that there's an entire universe of beauty waiting to be explored within each person we meet.  Check out my Facebook or Instagram pages for more fun!

Wishful Wednesday!!

April showers bring May flowers!!  It's a chilly rainy morning, perfect for reading a good book and getting some work done.  I'm thrilled to be working not only on writing my blog but embarking on an exciting journey by becoming a work at home mother.  I will be writing and advocating for important Michigan environmental health issues.  I love nature and am very concerned with it's health so for me its a perfect mission to work toward bettering our future.  I love my home state of Michigan, winter is tough but when Michigan comes alive it's a breathtaking place of amazing natural beauty. I'm looking forward to the blooms of spring and have big plans for photoshoots in flowering orchards and along the picturesque shores of Lake Michigan.  Today's Wishful Wednesday is wistful thoughts of summer days and roses in bloom!!

Roses are my favorite flower.  They evoke cherished memories of my childhood and gardening with my grandmother.  I love their delightful colors, layers of frilly petals and sweet, lingering fragrance.  When I discovered Hot Chocolate shoes I noticed originality, their designs blend art and concept in limited edition footwear.  While they have many crazy cool shoes, I was drawn to these Double Topping Emma heels immediately, I fell in love with their unique feminine style and rose print.  I adore the bright sky blue contrasting with the beautiful multicolored roses and the fanciful scalloped gold trim in front makes these shoes stand out for me, they are so very unique.  They are the inspiration and the focal point of this weeks outfit.  I usually am more of a dress lover but these shoes are so interesting they will definitely draw the eye and I believe they would be just as adorable worn with jeans.

Lindy Bop is among my favorite vintage clothing companies.  They have an amazing selection of clothing, dresses, skirts, petticoats all in beautiful vibrant patterns, colors and perfectly retro styled.  They are made from high quality materials and cut to fit very well.  I own the Ophelia dress in turquoise floral and the Carola halter dress in summer meadow floral, both are gorgeous!

I would pair the Double Topping Emma shoes with this bold Lindy Bop Ethel dress in Coral.  The shoes have a vibrant print so a plain dress will make them stand out in this outfit.  The Ethel is a beautiful style, textured material, a boat neckline with gathered bodice, adjustable tie details at the shoulder and fitted wide waistband above a flaring circle skirt.  I would wear Lindy Bops white petticoat under for volume and feminine detail.

Daisy Jean Floral Designs are glorious!  They are designed by an Aussie Pinup girl with beautiful Pinup perfect style in mind.  Beautiful flowers for beautiful women.  I would wear this lovely pastel princess rose piece.  I love the large double roses in cream and with just a blush of color to match the blush color on the shoes.  I just do not feel perfectly finished until I'm wearing a flower in my hair!!

Cheap Frills from the U.K. have beautiful and charming designs.  They combine modern pieces with the classic beauty of Grandma's jewelry box and their items are hand assembled.  I love their In Bloom necklace.  The gold swallows hold a  bouquet of resin roses that echo the rose pattern and gold trim on the shoes.  I love the whimsical feel of golden birds in flight festooning my neck with a wreath of roses.  I'm very much into frippery and girly detail but as a work at home mom budget is key so I adore Cheap Frills fanciful designs and reasonable price tag!

I hope you enjoy my whimsy, I absolutely adore putting together these Wishful Wednesday outfits.  I'm a daydreamer at heart, join me for more fun on my Facebook page!!  Have a lovely day!!!

Lady Mayra Review!

It's a beautiful quiet morning.  The snow has almost melted and I saw crocus peeking out!  I'm getting all dolled up today to go to the local VFW hall and support our veterans at a St. Patty's day dance.  I love wearing dresses!  I'm a stay at home mother and we are on a very limited income so its hard to keep new dresses in the closet.  This is why I enter many giveaways, it gives me a chance to own things I would never afford otherwise!  I have been very lucky to win several giveaways.  I have won dresses, shoes, jewelry and more from some of my favorite brands.  I will review everything here and I'm hoping to not only show you what I love but introduce you to some new stylish items and brands!!
I was blessed to win a dress from Lady Mayra in a Facebook giveaway.  Lady Mayra is a pinup company with a great variety of gorgeous dresses and skirts.  I won my choice of any of their Elsa dresses.  This was not an easy task because Elsa comes in 12 different color combos and I love them all!!  Eventually I showed my husband and his favorite was the black floral.
I love it!  It's so vibrant with fuschia, goldenrod, baby pink and celery green floral and vines dancing on it.  I was careful to measure and got a size 3xl.  It fits like a glove and I would suggest if you are large busted to go up one size, the material does not have stretch.  The fit is lovely, flattering and it has a generous circle skirt!  I'm wearing a Malco Modes Jennifer petticoat underneath and you could easily wear a much larger petticoat!  Maximum skirt swirling potential. Some companies skimp on the skirts for their plus versions of dresses but not Lady Mayra.  The very similar Lindy Bop Ophelia dress is beautiful but has a disappointing and rather unflattering a-line skirt on the plus size dress.  I'm impressed!!  The sweetheart neckline is flattering, it tapers in at the waist and the full circle skirt give the hourglass silhouette I love. The material is high quality cotton, soft, silky and sturdy with bright crisp print.  I love the selection, variety of unique prints available and quality of their dresses for the price.  Their customer service is friendly and shipping was fast from Thailand.  Lady Mayra has a great selection of beautifully designed dresses and as a bonus they do regular giveaways on their Facebook page!!  I highly recommend you give them a look!!!

Wishful Wednesday!!

Happy hump day lovies!!  It's a beautiful bright and sunny day here in Michigan.  The snow is thawing, there's no minus sign in front of the temperature and spring is in the air.  I'm ready for blooming trees and the scent of blossoms all around.  My favorite spring blooms are the fragrant cherry blossoms, because Michigan is a huge cherry producer this weeks outfit is inspired by juicy, cheerful Michigan Cherries 🍒🍒

I've been admiring Heart of Haute, they have a lovely clothing line that is designed with vintage fashion culture in mind.  I love the cut of their dresses and the variety in their prints.  Their line has it all whimsy, sophistication, and perfect pinup styling.  I chose the gorgeous Beverly dress in aqua dot and cherry print.  I love the picturesque neckline with the bow detail and the contast of bright red cherries against aqua blue, it really makes the dress really pop!!  It has a full skirt so it can be worn with or without a petticoat which makes it great for many different occasions or just enjoying some fun in the sun.

I would pair the dress with this gorgeous red pettiflirt from Spunkerella whose petticoats are designed to resemble the 50s style petti combined with the flirty girliness of a tutu.  I love how full and flouncy it is with the ribbon detail and that they cater to all sizes.  Their petticoats are beautiful, they come in several styles and colors to match every outfit!  Perfect for my preferred pinup style!!

I adore Deer Arrow.  I love supporting small family owned companies because their items are carefully crafted, handmade and handpainted which makes them treasures to me!  I would wear the adorable Vintage Chevy brooch in red with this dress.  I cannot get over how perfect it is and it would provide a dash of fifties fun to this outfit!!

B.a.i.t. (But another innocent tale...) have the most amazing collection of vintage style footwear.  They bring back thecfeelong f yesteryear with a modern touch.  They have every type, color, style and heel size to accessorize any retro or modern fashion look.  I chose their Ida precious blue because it matches this dress to a tee and has that perfect vintage feel without being too tall for function.  Check out their line and fall in love!!

I love Vintage Box 1947.  I love her style, sass and eye for design.  Each of her creations are statement pieces, high quality, lovingly handmade and absolutely breathtaking!!  I would wear the Sophia open rose in Vanilla with this outfit because roses are my favorite flower and I love pairing big feminine flowers with fun fruity prints.  I cannot recommend VB1947 highly enough, she's  an absolute doll!!!

I'm having so much fun writing these blogs and sharing with you, please let me know what you think or if you have anything you would like to see in future blogs.  I will be reviewing the fabulous Lady Mayra Elsa dress tomorrow and Friday the Bearpaw Twill boot!!!

Erstwilder review!

My first exposure to Erstwilder was about 6 months ago when I began following the fabulous retro style blogger Miss Lixxie Lou. I noticed not only her amazing outfits and perfect hair but the cute, kitschy and completely unique Erstwilder pieces that she wore so often caught my eye.  I had never heard of the company so I googled their website and fell in love but finding a retailer here in the USA proved tough!   I began my quest for my first Erstwilder piece and was blessed to win Erstwilder's Foxy giveaway!!

I chose the new She's So Foxy brooch.  It came in the most adorable round cardboard package and they even sent a cute sweater dog magnet as a bonus.  When you open the box inside the lid are care instruction and a character card with the name of your unique little resin friend with a little poem about it.

She's So Foxy
Oh she's so foxy, just a swish and a flick this way and that, the men all come running without fail.

The brooch is beautiful!!  The Body is white with red, blue, yellow floral with green leaf accents, the black eyes, ears, nose and swishing tail tip are glossy black resin.  The face is dimensional, three layers give it depth and character.  I've worn her out several times on dresses also with a sweater and jeans, each time I wear her I recieve tons of compliments on and questions about the brooch, people just love her!  Erstwilder's pieces are eye catching, unique, high quality and there is a piece perfect for every outfit or occasion! Check them out and let me know what you think!   Thank you Erstwilder!!
